FC Bayern Munich moves into the round of 16 of the Champions League as group winners.
The German champions showed a strong performance in the 3-0 (2-0) win in Barcelona, with goals scored by Sadio Mané (10th minute), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (31st) and Benjamin Pavard (90+4th).
FC Barcelona will continue in the Europa League in 2023.
It was already clear before the game that the top Spanish club would miss the round of 16, as in the previous season, because Inter Milan had defeated Viktoria Pilsen 4-0 (2-0) in the early evening.
FC Barcelona started pressing early, but Bayern didn't let that deter them.
The German champions patiently let the ball run – before Serge Gnabry made the game very fast.
From behind the center line he played a perfectly timed through ball into Sadio Mané's run, who ran away from Hector Bellerín, pulled into the penalty area from the left and lobbed the ball past Barça keeper Marc-André ter Stegen into the left corner (10').
Former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, meanwhile, had a difficult time. He repeatedly clashed with central defender Matthijs de Ligt, who either stopped him fairly or with a foul.
FC Barcelona often had the ball, but Bayern keeper Sven Ulreich was unemployed.
On the other hand, Bayern were much more efficient that evening than so often this season.
In the 31st minute, Gnabry passed the in-form attacker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who converted the ball through Ter Stegen's legs to make it 2-0.
In the middle, the overwhelmed Bellerín had previously canceled the offside.
After that, Bayern stopped the Catalans' game by any means necessary, with Noussair Mazraoui, Leon Goretzka and Dayot Upamecano all receiving a yellow card in the first half.
Just before the break, referee Anthony Taylor also gave Bayern de Ligt a yellow card and awarded Barcelona a penalty after the central defender allegedly fouled Lewandowski.
Only after viewing the video images did the referee revise his original decision, de Ligt had only played the ball before hitting Lewandowski's legs (45 + 1.).
Bavaria remains sovereign
Bayern remained the dominant team in the second half as well.
Unlike the 2-0 win in the first leg, Julian Nagelsmann's team didn't have to tremble this time.
In the 55th minute, two assists Gnabry scored, but was offside, so the goal did not count.
After that, the game flattened out, also because Nagelsmann changed properly.
Barcelona got through more often now, but didn't finish the attacks accurately enough.
Only in injury time did Benjamin Pavard score the final point after a corner (90+4.).
After five wins from five games, FC Bayern are unassailable in first place in Group C. Inter Milan are second with ten points and are also in the round of 16.
FC Barcelona, third in the table with four points, will play in the Europa League in the future, Pilsen, which has no points, is out.
