The draw for the Asian Cup for U-20 Youth, which was drawn in the Uzbek capital Tashkent, has placed the Syrian national football team in Group A, along with the teams of Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Iraq.
The second group in the finals to be held next March included the teams of Qatar, Australia, Vietnam and Iran, and the third group included the teams of South Korea, Tajikistan, Jordan and Oman, while the fourth group included the teams of Saudi Arabia, Japan, China and Kyrgyzstan.
Our national team coach, Mark Vote, said: After reaching the finals for the first time in 12 years, we will play in the finals with the host country's team, Uzbekistan, which is one of the candidates to win the title, in addition to Indonesia, which qualified as the champion of the sixth group in the qualifiers, and the Iraqi team, which is second in Group Eight.
Futa pointed out that the upcoming tournament is a good experience for Syrian players born in 2003-2004, and a new test to follow up the capabilities of our young players at the international level, indicating at the same time the need to prepare well, and therefore we will develop a preparatory program for the finals with good technical and physical readiness.
Our team qualified for the Asian finals by coming second in the fourth group of qualifiers, one point ahead of leaders Jordan, to come in fourth place among the best second-placed teams according to the tournament system, which stipulates that it qualifies for the Asian finals, the first place in each group, along with The five best runner-up teams in the ten groups, plus the hosts of the finals, Uzbekistan.
