After two bankruptcies in the league and the cup in Paderborn, Werder won again.
In the 1-0 (0-0) win against Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga game on Friday evening, Bremen struggled for a long time and missed a few chances before Niclas Füllkrug struck again (83rd minute).
Bremen is sixth after the win, Hertha 13th.
In contrast to Bremen, Hertha recently showed a clearly improving form and also had the first opportunity.
Stevan Jovetić was initially denied by keeper Jiří Pavlenka, the ball bounced to Marco Richter, who aimed too imprecisely (2nd minute).
The hosts also got into the game well, after a cross from Romano Schmid, Niklas Füllkrug was ready to head in, but Hertha's Agustín Rogel was able to clear (5').
A lively game developed with many duels in midfield, but also inaccurate offensive actions.
Bremen's Marvin Ducksch frittered away the greatest chance of the first half, shooting the ball over the goal instead of passing the ball to the jug (26').
The game flattened out after the break.
Werder were no longer so biting in the duels, only ex-Berliner Mitchell Weiser still caused danger with his dribbles.
Only towards the end of the game did Bremen become more compelling again.
Weiser initially missed a big opportunity (82'), then came Füllkrug.
After a cross from Anthony Jung, he jumped higher than his opponents and scored the winning goal with a header.
It was his ninth goal of the season - and a new letter of application in the direction of national coach Hansi Flick.
