Former Turkish coach Senol Günes, architect of Turkey's third place in the 2002 World Cup, was appointed Besiktas coach on Friday to replace Frenchman Valérien Ismaël, the Turkish club announced.

The 70-year-old technician has already won two championships with the Istanbul team during a first term (2015-2019).
His new contract runs until the end of the 2023-2024 season, Besiktas said in a statement.
Senol Günes will be responsible for reviving the team, 5th in the Turkish Süper Lig standings after 11 days.
Author of a good start to the season, the Black Eagles have won only one of their last six matches and suffered a humiliating defeat (2-1) on Monday on the ground of the modest team of Hatayspor.
