Guy Panini, one of the greatest players of the Israel national team, retires from the national uniform.
After almost two decades in blue and white and at the age of 39, the veteran forward officially announced today (Friday) his retirement from the Israel national team.
Panini finished his huge career in the Israeli national team with 176 appearances, being third only after Yaniv Green and Doron Gemchi.
Panini played in six European championships from 2007 until the last one this summer, when in between he missed only one championship.
He also played with the Israeli team in the World Cup qualifiers in the current campaign and is one of the five players who participated in all 8 games that took place, and excelled in the first win over Poland at home.
As in every frame in which he played, he scored some unforgettable clutch baskets, the most important of all was the victory in the team's only victory over Germany, in EuroBasket 2017 in Israel.
Upon his retirement from the national uniform Panini said: "It has always been a great privilege and a great honor to represent the country and Israeli basketball.
I always gave my all on the field.
I thank the players, the coaches and the many teams that accompanied me throughout the long years in the national team.
Above all, I thank the audience that supported me.
I was and remain a fan of the Israel national team and I will always be there to contribute as much as I am asked.''
