World Cup 2022: Ruiz, Ramos, Soler… all the Spaniards of PSG will not see Qatar

2022-10-28T06:51:32.525Z

The six members of the Spanish contingent in Paris will not all be selected for the World Cup. Only Pablo Sarabia and Carlos Soler are

This is a first in the history of PSG.

Spain is the most represented foreign country in the dressing room.

The recruitment of midfielders Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler this summer came to fill the community already made up of Sergio Ramos, Sergio Rico, Juan Bernat and Pablo Sarabia.

However, PSG should not be the most represented club in the Spanish selection at the World Cup in Qatar (November 20-December 18) for which Luis Enrique, manager of La Roja, will communicate his list on November 10.

Pablo Sarabia (24 caps, 9 goals) has been, since Euro 2021 - where Spain reached the semi-finals, only losing on penalties against future European champions Italy - the one of the selection frames.

Even with reduced playing time in Paris, the winger holds his ticket for his first career World Cup.

Carlos Soler (11 selections), who was not part of the European adventure, will also be traveling to Qatar.

Absent for injury from the Final 4 of the League of Nations in October 2021, the attacking midfielder has always been called up by Luis Enrique since September of the same year.

Juan Bernat and Sergio Rico will not be

If the situation seems acquired for these two, it is quite the opposite for Juan Bernat and Sergio Rico, who will not go to Doha.

For the latter, no surprise.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper (1 selection only) has not been part of the selection plans since March 2017, the date of his last call.

And his total lack of playing time with PSG does not even allow him to apply for a role as third doorman.

For Juan Bernat (11 selections), the serious knee injury suffered in September 2020 sidelined him, at PSG as in Spain, for more than a year.

Its final call dates back to the fall of 2019, before the Covid pandemic.

The most complex cases concern Sergio Ramos and Fabian Ruiz.

Double European champion (2008, 2012), world champion (2010), the 36-year-old defender brought glory to La Roja.

He has the record of selections for his country (180) and he is even the second most capped European in the history of nations, behind Cristiano Ronaldo's 191 units.

But, except surprise, Ramos will not see Qatar and will not experience a fifth World Cup.

Coach Luis Enrique does not count on his services in central defense where four names stand out (Aymeric Laporte, Inigo Martinez, Éric Garcia and Pau Torres).

Finally, Fabian Ruiz also seems to have given up on this World Cup.

For the former Napoli, it is neither a question of playing time nor of experience (15 selections).

His current period with PSG would even push in his favor.

But his tense relationship with Luis Enrique, which would date from a falling out in the middle of Euro 2021 during the round of 16 against Croatia (5-3 ap), seems irremediable.

No longer summoned with La Roja since July 2021, Fabian Ruiz now has his mind elsewhere.

"I've never had any problem with the coach," he breathed unconvincingly at a press conference on Monday before the success against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League (7-2).

Before leaving little room for suspense: “On the contrary, I wish the best to my teammates and my country.

I'm just focused on my club, on doing things well, doing what I can and tomorrow's game.

It's hard to imagine him in the group that will start the World Cup against his teammate Keylor Navas' Costa Rica on November 23.
