BVB victory in Frankfurt: Where there is gobbling, there are hardly any goals conceded

There are hardly any goals conceded where there is a goof:

Borussia Dortmund remains on the road to success.

Since the 2-0 defeat at Union Berlin, when coach Edin Terzić criticized his team in an unusually open and clear manner, BVB have now been unbeaten in four competitive games - three times without conceding a goal.

Man of the match at Eintracht Frankfurt was not goal scorer Jude Bellingham, who continued his impressive streak of the past few weeks, but goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Swiss has been difficult to overcome since surviving the injury break, in the Bundesliga top game Frankfurt's attackers despaired of Kobel in rows.

Jesper Lindstrøm (54th minute/58th) and Randal Kolo Muani (57th/62nd) were more or less free in front of Kobel in Frankfurt's strongest phase, but the 24-year-old always brought a body part to the ball.

The result:

BVB won 2-1 (1-1) in Frankfurt and climbed to third place in the table.

Here is the match report.

No problem with the double burden:

The times seem to be over when Bundesliga teams that don't come from Dortmund or Munich were overwhelmed by the double burden of the Champions League or Europa League.

That applies to Union Berlin, that applies to SC Freiburg, but also to Frankfurt.

Eintracht won against Marseille last Wednesday and can move into the round of 16 of the Champions League next Tuesday with a win against Sporting Portugal.

This had no effect on the game against Dortmund, Eintracht acted with maximum energy and could have won the game with a total of 20 shots on goal and many great chances.

First half:

BVB showed more mature play at the beginning - and gave up the game after the equalizer.

Dortmund took the lead through Julian Brandt, who completed a strong preparation by Donyell Malen on the left with a low shot through the legs of Kevin Trapp (21st).

Just five minutes later, Daichi Kamada equalized for Eintracht.

As a result, the hosts, with the noisy spectators behind them, had more dynamic in the game.

After a lob from Randel Kolo Muani on the post, BVB was also lucky because referee Sascha Stegemann did not classify a push by Karim Adeyemi in the back of Lindstrøm as a penalty penalty (42nd).

With a record of 9: 5 shots on goal for the Frankfurt team, it was time for the break.

When the heel falls on the feet:

It was only a few weeks ago that central defender and World Cup candidate Mats Hummels criticized his team with pithy words.

Soccer doesn't have to be sexy and everyone has to be clear "that successful soccer isn't heel, toe, one, two, three over five meters".

It is important to do the right thing and not something special, said Hummels after the 1-1 draw against Sevilla in the premier class.

Before Kamada scored, there was an inadequate attempt to clear the Dortmund defense with a hoe – by Hummels.

Shortly thereafter, Adeyemi slipped and because two BVB players were oriented in the direction of Kolo Muani, Kamada had enough space for his well-placed shot from 18 meters.

Second half:

BVB coach Terzić got his team back on track in the dressing room.

The Black-Yellows became more active, didn't allow themselves to be pushed so far on the defensive - and after a combination of Niklas Süle and Youssoufa Moukoko scored through Jude Belingham to take the lead again (52').

However, the regained security didn't last too long, also because Salih Özcan and Nico Schlotterbeck frittered away the ball twice close to their own goal and thus gave the Frankfurters two great chances.

The momentum was now back on Eintracht's side, more big chances followed, but BVB brought the victory with luck over time.

Frankfurt quarrels:

In the end, Frankfurt lost the game because of their poor exploitation of chances - or from Dortmund's point of view because of Gregor Kobel.

Nevertheless, coach Oliver Glasner felt that he had a better chance of a different course of the game with another referee.

After the penalty was denied in the first half, Stegemann decided on a foul in the creation of the Bellingham goal in a fair duel between Sebastian Rode and Özcan;

and when Kobel cleared Götze with a high ball into the penalty area, many other referees would have decided on a penalty.

"If the referee makes a mistake, ok, but then the video assistant (VAR) should report," said Frankfurt's sports director Markus Krösche after the game on Sky.

Stegemann also confirmed to Sky that

The view towards Qatar:

National coach Hansi Flick looked at FC Bayern's 6-2 win over Mainz on this match day.

In Frankfurt he could have observed some of his World Cup candidates.

He would have noticed that Süle can defend both inside and outside, that leading player Hummels is in good form despite his involvement in the equalizer, that Schlotterbeck still has a few mistakes too many in the game structure, that Brandt has been acting consistently for weeks and that Adeyemi is defensive increased, but has lost its dangerousness in attack.

Goalkeeper Trapp had to let both shots on goal pass on the Frankfurt side.

That leaves Mario Gotze.

The former Dortmund native was one of the best players on the pitch, capturing 93 ball actions, running 12 kilometers and making some surprising, clever passes.

Götze could be the surprise in Flick's squad.

This is how it goes on:

Both teams still have four games in the calendar before the World Cup break.

Eintracht will do everything to win against Sporting on Tuesday, followed by Augsburg and Mainz away in the Bundesliga and a home game against Hoffenheim.

BVB can take on FC Copenhagen on Wednesday as a settled round of 16.

Nationally, Dortmund are hoping for nine points against Bochum, Wolfsburg and Mönchengladbach.
