Rugby: where to see France-Australia and five things to know about the first test of the Blues

2022-11-04T14:42:03.558Z

Schedule, offbeat info, anecdotes... What you need to know before the opening match of the Blues tour, this Saturday, against the Wallabies.

Where to follow the match of the XV of France

The kick-off of the first test match of the XV of France against Australia will be given at 9 p.m. at the Stade de France.

A meeting broadcast live on France 2, commented by Matthieu Lartot and Dimitri Yachvili.

The match can also be followed live with commentary on lefigaro.fr.

This meeting will be refereed by the South African Jaco Peyper.

476 days of invincibility for the Blues

The XV of France has not lost since July 17, 2021 and a short loss, 33-30, against… Australia in Brisbane (the last confrontation between these two teams).

Since then, the Blues have chained ten victories: Argentina, Georgia, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and Japan (twice), in chronological order.

A series of ten victories which allowed Fabien Galthié's men to equal an old record dating from the 1930s: ten victories from 1931 to 1937, but gleaned against modest opponents, Italy and Germany, the Blues being then excluded from the Tournament for brutality.

By aligning an eleventh consecutive success, this XV of France would therefore simply go down in history.

The Wallabies, black beast of the Blues

Blues and Wallabies have already faced each other 50 times.

For a record clearly unfavorable to the tricolor: 19 wins, against 29 for the Australians (and two draws).

Since 2008, the balance has been even worse: 11 successes for the Wallabies for three small French victories.

In November 2012, at the Stade de France (33-6), in November 2014, still at the SDF (29-26), and in July 2021, a 28-26 exploit in Melbourne which had put an end to 31 years of failure of the XV of France in Australia.

Of the 24 confrontations between France and Australia on French soil, the Blues have won 14 times, for a draw and nine defeats.

Flament and Lucu still haven't lost

Stade Toulousain second-line Thibaud Flament, starter against Australia, and UBB scrum-half Maxime Lucu, on the bench, are still undefeated in the blue jersey.

Nine selections for as many victories.

Antoine Dupont, he has still not experienced defeat as captain of the XV of France.

Three 2015 Cup finalists in the Australian ranks

The Wallabies can draw on the experience of three players who played in (and lost, 34-17) the 2015 World Cup final against the All Blacks.

They are fly-half Bernard Foley, third-row Michael Hooper (both starters in 2015) and current captain, prop James Slipper (substitute seven years ago).

These three players will start this Saturday at the Stade de France.

Moefana could play again with

Falatea, his uncle

Last July, the anecdote made people smile.

UBB center Yoram Moefana took part in the first win over Japan (42-23) playing alongside prop Sipili Falatea (who moved from Clermont to UBB), who is none other than... . his uncle !

Hard to imagine, the first being 22 years old and the second only three years older!

This could be the case again this Saturday against Australia, when Falatea, a substitute, comes into play, while Moefana will start on one of the wings.

Last summer, Moefana said: “

Sipili is my father's little brother.

They both have a big age difference.

So I consider Sipili more like a big brother

.

We grew up together in Futuna.

Small, we did not know that we would play together one day in the France team.

To have achieved that is really a treat…

” A pleasure that should be renewed this Saturday at the Stade de France.
