In the end, ESC Geretsried celebrated a clear 5:2 win in the home game against weakened Waldkraiburger.

Geretsried – Things are going well for the Geretsried ice hockey team under the new coach Hans Tauber Jr.: The River Rats celebrated their first home win of the season in a 5:2 (2:0, 1:2, 2:0) win against EHC Waldkraiburg third straight win and their first six-point weekend.

"We can be satisfied," said the coach after the match in front of 336 spectators.

His team met the requirements for at least two-thirds of the time: "We wanted to be good defensively and narrow the neutral zone."

With all legitimate joy, however, the ESC played into the cards that Waldkraiburg had only started with one goalkeeper and ten field players due to illness.

"It was a fight with unequal weapons," said EHC trainer Markus Berwanger.

However, his core group sold expensively and repeatedly caused dangerous breaks.

The River Rats tried to get the game under control from the start and also took a 2-0 lead through Paul Ganias Schlenzer (14th) and Florian Strobl's follow-up shot.

In the second section, however, a similar sluggishness crept in as on Friday in Pfaffenhofen.

"We were partly too disordered at the back," said Tauber annoyed.

What the guests promptly used to score by Leon Judt (22nd) and equalized by Philipp Lode (28th).

Luckily, Josef Reiter made it 3:2 (39th) after a wonderful through ball from Strobl.

In the final third, Waldkraiburg's strength gradually dwindled.

Now only the ESC was on the trigger and made the 5:2 victory perfect through Daniel Bursch (52nd) and Benedikt May into the empty EHC case (60th).

"We played it down in the end," Tauber praised, while Berwanger quarreled: "It's frustrating when you have to start decimated every week."

Geretsried - Waldkraiburg 5: 2 (2: 0, 1: 2, 2: 0) - goals: 1: 0 (13:06) Gania (Reiter, Köhler), 2: 0 (14:42) Strobl (Horvath, Rezac ), 2:1 (21:16) Judt (Loboda 5-4), 2:2 (27:25) P. Lode (Popelka), 3:2 (38:19) Reiter (Strobl), 4:2 ( 51:56) Bursch (Merl), 5:2 (59:48) May (Bursch ENG).
