Sevilla forgives Betis

2022-11-07T12:31:05.691Z

Pellegrini's team, outnumbered throughout the second half, hold the tie against a rival without football in an exciting derby and with three red cards

PreviousLive Chronicle

Derby games are games that demand tremendous control over the emotions of the players.

The environment outside and the pressure of the fans often produce anxiety in footballers.

It is not surprising, therefore, that in these duels there are usually many expulsions.

They did not miss, of course, in the official edition 138 of the duel of the maximum rivalry in Seville.

And one after the other until they decisively scored a game that Betis had absolutely controlled and that they decided to hand over to their eternal rival.

In just a quarter of an hour there were three red cards, two for Betis and one for Sevilla (Fekir and Borja; and Montiel).

Anxiety, naivety and lack of self-control took their toll on Betis.

Thus, Sevilla, who had the game lost,

found themselves superior at the start of the second half against Betis with nine players.

It happened that the soccer jam of Sampaoli's men is of such a caliber that it cost them a world to overcome a Betis stuck behind to defend their go-ahead goal on the scoreboard.

Only Gudelj, with a distant missile, was able to pierce the goal defended by Bravo in the 82nd minute.

The emotion then colored a derby in which Betis defended itself as best it could and Sevilla desperately sought the second goal.

It was Gudelj, precisely, who had the best options in a fast-paced final stretch.

The Serbian, the best attacker of Sampaoli's men, sent a volley to the crossbar.

Still on the last play of the match, Bravo made a save after a measured cross from Navas.

Betis, who had had the derby in their hands and had delivered it, defended an entire part with one less against an inoperative Sevilla.

It was the moment of other heroes that usually appear in derbies, in the case of Edgar, who multiplied himself to cut Sevilla's goal balls.

The final one-on-one of a crazy derby, with three expulsions, tastes like glory to Betis and penalizes a Sevilla without football, which ended up forgiving its rival.

Navas, at his own door

A tackle from Montiel to the knee of Álex Moreno opened the way for a goal to a Betis at times overcome by the touch, yes, inconsequential, from Sevilla.

It happened that six minutes after the red card to Montiel, with the intervention of the VAR, Navas, his substitute, scored an own goal after a clearance by Gudelj and with the collaboration of Bono.

The derby had turned sweet for Betis, with 1-0 on the scoreboard and numerical superiority, until Fekir, as good a player as he was unpredictable in his reactions, dropped his arm back to hit Papu.

The VAR intervened and the world champion with France, who did not know how to measure his emotions, went to the locker room with monumental anger.

Bad for Fekir, who added his fifth expulsion during his stay in the Spanish League (plus one in the Europa League).

What no one could expect is that Borja Iglesias, at 49 minutes, decided to shoot against his own team by earning another red card in a childish way by stepping on Jordán's ankle.

Again, the lack of temper, pause, head, came in the form of an invoice for the local team.

A new game, but with 1-0 for Betis, emerged from a breeding ground where the Verdiblancos had been dangerous on the counterattack against a dominating Sevilla, with a good touch, but without punch.

Betis, who lacked the ball, were able to score, however, after 22 minutes, only against Bono and after a delicious heel drop by Canales.

In Sevilla, Mir had it after an error by Sabaly in the exit of the ball, but Edgar took the ball, weakly, before he entered.

It was Bono who kept his team in the match with a save on Borja.

Bono returned to stop before Álex Moreno.

Then Borja stepped on Jordán and saw the red one.

Sevilla, with 10 against a Betis with nine, dominated at will, but without depth against a very brave Betis.

Only Gudelj, with a great shot, beat Bravo.

Sevilla tried it and Gudelj himself returned to finish off the crossbar.

The second did not arrive and Betis celebrated a point when they had all three at halftime.

Sevilla, very little football, has a hard penance ahead.
