With a 34:26 victory (13:10) over HC Erlangen, HCD Gröbenzell defended its lead in the 3rd division in the Wittelsbacherhalle.

Gröbenzell – After the only defeat suffered so far in September against Haunstetten, the HCD women felt at home in the "Panther cage" of the Brucker handball team this time.

The result that looked so confident at the end of the 60 minutes demanded a lot of sweat from coach Stefan Weidinger's team.

The game was open for a long time and it was only towards the end that the Gröbis were able to pull away decisively.

The first 30 minutes of the Bavarian derby were tight.

Initially, neither team could pull away.

It was only after 20 minutes that the Gröbis had gained a three-goal lead and were even able to extend it to five goals.

But by the half-time break, Erlangen was close to three goals again.

"We didn't get into the game well," reports Weidinger.

Both in defense and in attack, they made an unusually large number of mistakes.

"We just didn't do a good job at that stage of the game."

Saskia Putzke carries her team to victory

Even at the beginning of the second half, the game didn't go well at all for the Gröbis.

"The things that distinguished us in the top game against Wolfschlugen didn't work out this time," said Weidinger.

Team and coach went through an emotional roller coaster ride.

Sometimes they led by five goals, then this melted down again to just one goal.

The team then benefited from driving force Saskia Putzke, who carried her team away.

And a strong Theresa Bauer in goal.

In the last few minutes of the game, the Gröbis had a few more grains in their quiver and were rewarded for an overall good fighting performance.

With the success, the HCD was able to keep the pursuers at a distance.

It certainly wasn't his team's best performance of the season, said Weidinger after the game.

Nevertheless, his team prevailed in the end.

Even if the victory was a bit too high with a difference of eight goals and did not quite correspond to the course of the game, the victory was deserved.

The most successful thrower was once again an outstanding Saskia Putzke with seven goals, followed by Belen Gettwart with five goals.

In general, the 34 goals were shared between a total of eleven players.
