The former Israel national team player supports the member of the Knesset, who called yesterday to stop football games on Saturdays: "Who like me knows how much the conflict between preserving tradition and the love for the field tears the heart every Saturday anew"

Against the background of the uproar caused by MK Bezalel Smotrich who called yesterday to stop the holding of football games on Saturday, the designated minister received support this morning (Tuesday) from the former Israeli national team player, Idan Tal, who has been in the process of repenting in recent years.

"The discrimination that exists against Shabbat keepers in the structure of the top league in soccer must change," said Tal, "who like me and like many of my friends in the industry who know how much the conflict between keeping tradition and the love for the field is heartbreaking every Shabbat.

Tal also added: "Football players also deserve a day off in the State of Israel and I hope that the change will come as soon as possible for the sake of equality and Jewish values that are important to the majority of Israeli citizens. I support Smotrich's claims, which clearly and fairly point to the conflict in favor of promoting sports for everyone equally."

Tal previously fought to change the days of the league games in favor of traditionalists during Miri Regev's tenure as Minister of Sports, but then the attempt failed and the protest on the matter dropped from the agenda.

As mentioned, in recent years Tal repented and continued to maintain a career in the field when he coordinates the field of football at the Wingate Institute.
