IN PICTURES – From Mike Birch in 1978 to Francis Joyon in 2018, find all the heroes of the seas who conquered the ocean to win in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. will be the start of the twelfth edition of the Route du Rhum.

A vintage that could mark the history of the event since the weather conditions could allow records to be broken in the different categories.

Francis Joyon's performance established four years ago in 7 days 14 hours 21 minutes and 47 seconds at an average of 23.95 knots is therefore perhaps living its last days at the very top of the time sheets.

The defending champion may abandon the record but will remain forever engraved in the marble of the winners alongside Mike Birch, who died recently, Florence Arthaud, Laurent Bourgnon and Loïck Peyron.

From the Canadian, winner in 1978 in 23 d 06 h 59 min 35 s to Joyon on Idec Sport which took three times less time in 2018, find in images all the triumphant heroes of this sprint linking Saint-Malo to Pointe-à- Clown.
