Philipp Autenrieth from the Bavarian Yacht Club is the 470 World Champion.

Together with Luise Wanser he crowned the season - and is now dreaming of the Olympics again.

Starnberg – The disappointment last year was great: Philipp Autenrieth, crew from the Bavarian Yacht Club, and his helmsman Simon Diesch (Württemberg Yacht Club) had been working towards the Olympic Games in Tokyo for so long.

In the end, the two sailors narrowly missed qualifying - and then dissolved their team.

Sailing: Wanser/Autenrieth are world champions 2022

Now Autenrieth, now 32 years old, has a new partner - and seems to be even more successful with her: together with helmswoman Luise Wanser (25, North German Regatta Club), the Starnberg was the first mixed team to win a 470 world championship and gave the German association its first world title in the Olympic dinghy since 1994.

With the victory in Israel, the duo crowned themselves after a successful year.

Wanser/Autenrieth had repeatedly shown throughout the season that they are among the best in the world.

“The title is immeasurably valuable to us.

The amount of work, the many hours of training that we have put into our campaign over the past twelve months have paid off wonderfully here," said the duo happily in a first statement.

Missed start: Wanser/Autenrieth quickly flip switches

At this year's European Championships, they seemed to have had bad luck, and things didn't go well for Luise Wanser and Philipp Autenrieth at the start of the World Cup either.

Entering the racing series in Israel, the team in its boat "Daisy" achieved its worst result of the title fights with 21st place, but this seemed to be shaken up.

Because already in the other races of the first day, the two Germans flipped the switch.

The following positions two and one gave them the lead for the first time - which they shouldn't give up anymore.

After the second day, Wanser/Autenrieth moved into the Goldfleet as leaders.

The culmination of a great season: Philipp Autenrieth from the Bavarian Yacht Club (BYC) is the 470 World Champion.

Two races were sailed there every day.

The wind was gusting and shifting, but that didn't bother the Germans.

The team continued to extend their lead and eventually entered the medal race with a 22-point lead.

The title was thus secured for both of them even before the final race.

Philipp Autenrieth: "It was very, very demanding"

Despite the big lead at the end, the World Cup was anything but a walk in the park for the duo.

Philipp Autenrieth explained: “It was very, very demanding.

The whole time there were pumping conditions that took a lot of energy.

We gave everything and it went well together.”

He also thanked the other German crews of the national team: "Without them, without the German Sailing Team and without our very intensive winter training in Lanzarote, we would not have gotten to where we are now."

Philipp Autenrieth's new Olympic dream for Paris 2024

With the title, one thing became clear: If Wanser/Autenrieth prevail against the strong national competition in the Olympic selection for Paris 2024, they also have a chance of medals at the games.

In 2024 there will be an Olympic race in the 470 mixed class for the first time.

Presumably the last chance for Philipp Autenrieth to fulfill his Olympic dream.
