The Haifa police intend to take a very harsh hand against fans who disturbed the order tonight (Wednesday) in the Haifa derby between Hapoel and Maccabi.

As I recall, at the beginning of the season, Hapoel Haifa fans allegedly stole cheering equipment from the warehouses of Maccabi Haifa's ultras, something that really stirred up the spirits among the fan camps.

The police are afraid that the excitement will reach its peak this evening in Sami Ofer, and have established a special team that deals with the issue.

Over 300 police officers will be around the stadium, in addition to the requirement of 550 security guards inside the stadium and at the entrances to the gates.

"We are aware of everything that is happening on social networks and among the fan camps," said police officials, "It is clear that this is a complex and unusual derby in this respect, so we will take a heavy hand against anyone who comes with the aim of inciting a riot."

About 7,000 Hapoel Haifa fans are expected to support the team, but Maccabi Haifa will have a majority even though it is an away game and will be supported by about 20,000 fans who have already purchased tickets.

Even in the fight, the two clubs will try to lower the flames in order for the game to pass peacefully, and champion coach Barak Becher asked his players not to be dragged into provocations and to play the game in a sporting manner.

Tonight's game in Haifa will mark the 12th round in the Premier League.

At the end of the week, another round will take place, after which the league will go into the World Cup break.
