Hansi Flick presented his World Cup squad on Thursday.

But what happens if one of the 26 chosen gets injured before the start of the tournament?

Frankfurt/Main – As controversial as it may be, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is just around the corner.

After the announcement of the 26-strong German squad by national coach Hansi Flick, however, there is still one matchday in the Bundesliga on the agenda.

So next weekend, those responsible and the fans have to hope that none of the nominees get injured in the last few meters.

In the event of a failure, Flick would have to nominate players.

Flick explains scenario for possible injuries

The 57-year-old explained the relevant processes when asked at the DFB press conference in Frankfurt.

"According to my information, if something happens if someone gets injured, we can nominate them again up to 24 hours before the first matchday," said the Heidelberger and added: "Of course, a FIFA doctor will look at it."

In fact, a player may only be replaced if he "suffers a serious injury up to 24 hours before his team's first game (...) so that the player cannot take part in the competition," says the DFB website.

According to the rules, FIFA must "receive a detailed medical examination report in one of the four official FIFA languages".

"The association must nominate the substitute immediately and inform FIFA accordingly."

However, Flick did not want to let his cards be looked at in view of his possible replacements.

"I hope you're not expecting a list of players who will be called up.

We don't do that," he said at the press conference in the direction of a media representative.

The list only had to be “submitted up to 24 hours before the first matchday” so that the player exchange would be guaranteed.

If all the nominated internationals make it through the final day of the game unscathed, all they have to do is get through the final friendly against Oman on Wednesday next week.

The first group game against Japan is scheduled for November 23.

Hansi Flick then hopes for 26 national players who can play.
