Disappointed DFB players pour out their hearts – Cathy Hummels also mourns with Mats

They reacted soberly to the damper.
Frankfurt/Main – On Thursday, Hansi Flick announced his final decision regarding the squad for the upcoming World Cup.
While a mix of veterans, youngsters and even two debutants enjoyed squad spots, some players were bitterly disappointed.
The two Dortmund professionals in particular, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus, expressed their disillusionment on social media after being ignored.
Even Hummels' ex-wife Cathy felt compelled to react.

World Cup 2022: Marco Reus misses the next tournament – "Have tried everything possible"
One can only feel sorry for Marco Reus these days.
The 33-year-old BVB offensive player already missed the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 European Championships due to injury, and he also missed the 2021 European Championships for health reasons. Now Hansi Flick explained that Reus is not enough for this year's tournament due to his ankle inflammation .
The sadly tried BVB captain then found emotional words.
“After another setback in training on Sunday, everyone involved has tried everything possible over the past few days to make my participation in the World Championships possible.
However, with my injured ankle it wasn't enough for the World Cup," Reus wrote on Instagram.

He also expressed special thanks to the national coach.
"I would also like to thank national coach Hansi Flick and team doctor Jochen Hahne, who also tried everything!
In the end, however, we all had to accept that it wasn't enough," says the 48-time national player, who now has to accept the starting position.
"A big dream of mine has been shattered," he added.
Only at the catastrophic 2018 World Cup was the native of Dortmund, it will probably have been his last World Cup.

His teammate Mats Hummels, who was at the big coup in 2014 and who was reactivated for the European Championships after being knocked out in the course of the 2018 World Cup, is also not flying to Qatar.
"We decided on a younger player, not against Mats," said Flick, explaining the decision against the Dortmund defense chief.
Hummels was also hit by the national coach's decision.
"Unsurprisingly, this is one of the biggest disappointments of my career," the center-back wrote on Instagram.
He is keeping his fingers crossed for the team and will now "use the time to react to such an experience with hard work, as always".

His ex-wife Cathy, who was recently criticized for her questionable handling of mental illness, also had something to say about the World Cup nomination.
"I'm sorry you've been working so hard," the influencer wrote under a screenshot on her Instagram story.

World Cup nomination: Many top-class DFB players just watch the World Cup
Not only Reus and Hummels were disappointed on Friday afternoon.
Other players such as Inter full-back Robin Gosens, Leipzig's Benjamin Henrichs or Leeds professional Robin Koch would certainly have wanted a place in the 26-man squad.
In addition, midfielder Anton Stach from 1. FSV Mainz 05, Union professional and world champion brother Rani Khedira, as well as Wolfsburg captain Maximilian Arnold and Emre Can from BVB are likely to have been annoyed that they were not on the list.
The offensive stars Florian Wirtz, Timo Werner and Lukas Nmecha were also not nominated due to their injuries.
