Open water: Eva Fabian and Ziv Cohen were crowned Israeli champions for 3 km | Israel Hayom

For Ava this is the second consecutive title win, while for Ziv it is the first time in his career as Israel's champion for adults in open water


The open water world round competition opened this morning (Thursday) in Eilat with the Israeli championship in the 3 km breaststroke. At the end of two exciting and fascinating breaststrokes, Eva Fabian and Ziv Cohen were crowned Israeli champions.

For Ava this is the second consecutive title win, while for Ziv it is the first time in his career as the Israeli champion for adults in open water.

The swim was held at the religious beach in Eilat in excellent sea conditions, while for the men there was an escape group of six swimmers already at the beginning of the swim, which was led by Maor Goralnik from Po'el Bat Yam, Ziv Cohen and Yonatan Ehadot from Po'el Jerusalem right after them.

In the middle of the second lap, Cohen opened burners and rose to first place, which he did not lose until touching in a time of 34:44.6 minutes.

Yonatan Ahdot finished second, 12.3 seconds behind him, and Maor Goralnik third, 16.2 seconds behind the winner. 

 The women also had an escape group from the start, which included three swimmers.

Former world champion Eva Fabian from Po'el Beit Shemesh was the one who took the lead and didn't drop it until the end, with a time of 36:34 minutes.

Orin Gavlan from Hapoel Ironi Hod Hasharon did not let her get away and finished second 6.6 seconds behind her and Omer Shortz from Maccabi Kiryat Bialik third with 36:58 minutes.
