Piqué wanted to retire before the World Cup break

The former Barça player denies that he insulted the referee in Pamplona in an interview with the streamer Ibai Llanos

Gerard Piqué, a former Barcelona player, had planned to retire before he did so last Tuesday in Pamplona against Osasuna, a match he did not play after being sent off at halftime by referee Gil Manzano.

"I had always said that when I didn't feel important I would leave it and the feelings weren't the best since the season began," he argued in an interview on the Ibai Llanos Twitch channel.

“I felt out of place in games like against Elche and Valladolid and one day, when I was training in the stadium after the game, I thought of going down to the locker room and saying: it's over.

But they started to get injured, I thought I couldn't leave the team at that moment and I delayed my decision until the break for the World Cup came and I saw that it was the opportunity", specified the Barça center-back,

"Although at the beginning of the season, the coach told me that it would be difficult for me to play, I wanted to try to continue, but the day we traveled to Plzen to play the Champions League I told the president Joan Laporta: that's it," insisted Piqué.

“I left very happy, I said goodbye well.

I have made a spectacular trip, I have felt privileged every day.

I am privileged.

I had a blast after winning everything”, he said after adding that he is convinced that “the people of Madrid are going to miss me”.

Piqué, in any case, will be sanctioned after the referee sent him off during the break of Tuesday's match at El Sadar.

"I didn't insult him," he replied, contrary to what is stated in the record in which the expression "I shit on your fucking mother" appears.

“At the end of the first half I went to the referee to tell him that he had hurt us a lot: he whistled the corner kick that was Osasuna's goal when it wasn't, there was a foul in the 1-0 play, and the first yellow card to Lewandowski it was not, ”said the former Barça defender.

“We went into the locker room tunnel and I told him that he always hurt us, that he was always the same.

His answer was: he is expelled.

Then I entered the locker room and it was when a colleague said the phrase attributed to me.

The referee must have heard it because his locker room was next door and he pointed it at me.

Piqué thanked the farewell that the Camp Nou paid him last Saturday in the match against Almería.

"It was spectacular.

I did not expect what happened and it is greatly appreciated because you realize that people love you.

I wanted to leave and disappear because I don't like tributes.

At the end of the day, I will be linked to the club all my life”.

Regarding his intention to aspire to the presidency of the club, he added: “At some point I'm sure I'll feel like it.

Right now I don't have it in my head, but in the future, one day I would like to help exploit the potential that the club of my life has"

The former Barça player also spoke out in favor of changing some football rules and praised the president of Real Madrid: "I have Florentino at the top, although the way he announced the Super League was a shit."

Piqué finally assured that “I haven't even thought about whether or not I'm in the pre-list for the World Cup”.
