The publishing group unites the talent of its different titles to promote a live video channel about Qatar 2022

Football fans have been waiting for four and a half years to enjoy a World Cup again, which starts on the 20th in Qatar.

A strange appointment, different from all the others, for being held in the middle of winter.

To bring readers closer to the best information on the most important football event, Prisa Media unites for the first time the muscle and talent of its headers and launches Universo Mundial, a live audiovisual channel with up to 12 hours of uninterrupted daily programming that will include minute-by-minute follow-up of World Cup news, the most complete analysis and in-house reports.

The audiovisual project is directed by Fran Llorente, who joined Prisa this year as director of the video area.

More than 150 professionals from the group will offer the last minute of the matches and exclusive content through the different media supports: digital, printed, broadcast and social networks.

From November 20 to December 18, EL PAÍS, As, Cadena SER, Caracol Radio, El HuffPost, WRadio and ADN Chile will join forces to provide viewers with unprecedented coverage involving thirty special envoys who They will report from the field.

Those envoys will have the support of dozens of journalists who make up the Sports newsrooms of Prisa Media.

Universo Mundial will offer both live and on-demand content so viewers don't miss a thing from the biggest soccer event.

The programming, with live connections, can be followed through the YouTube channel of each of the Prisa media outlets, as well as on their web pages: it will always be accessible from the

EL PAÍS

home page.

The director of As and head of the Prisa Media Sports Committee, Vicente Jiménez, describes Universo Mundial as “a challenge”.

“We had never faced a multimedia editorial coverage, live and with many hours of broadcast.

It is a challenge for our teams that will require the highest level of synergies, coordination and agility.”

The journalist adds that this channel will allow all fans to "enjoy unprecedented creative muscle in the group" thanks to transversal work.

“The possibility of uniting the talent and resources of our media in Spain and America, with the support of the editions of EL PAÍS and As, in addition to the Prisa radio stations throughout the American continent, will allow us to reach where nobody more can come: quality and global journalism”.

Each header will provide its specificities.

“We face the event with ambition and a sense of responsibility.

Seven special envoys will travel to Qatar: José Sámano, who will cover his fifth World Cup date, and the reporter Ladislao Moñino;

both will follow the day to day of the Spanish team.

David Álvarez, Diego Torres and Lorenzo Calonge will focus on the rivals of La Roja and the other teams that are world powers”, indicates the editor-in-chief of Sports of EL PAÍS, Nadia Tronchoni.

In addition, the journalist Natalia Junquera, a regular on the political pages, will draw on her good clinical eye to bring readers closer to the reality of a country like Qatar, peculiar, different and highly criticized in human rights matters.

This is how Tronchoni explains it: “We are a generalist newspaper, and this will be a World Cup with a social aspect, it has much more than football.

Junquera will tell us what is not only football”.

Another special envoy will be in charge of the graphic part: Jaime Villanueva.

The information will be accompanied by renowned signatures on the sports pages: the world champions Jorge Valdano and Philipp Lahm;

Manuel Jabois, Andoni Zubizarreta, Enric González and new additions such as Gaizka Mendieta or the Barcelona footballer Irene Paredes, will present their most personal point of view.

Two writers of recognized prestige are added, such as Martín Caparrós, Argentine, and Juan Villoro, Mexican, who will exchange a daily correspondence.

The award-winning infographics and data team from EL PAÍS will do a special coverage of the World Cup event to offer readers the most visual analysis and all the numbers capable of explaining the matches.

The newspaper's Sports team is also working hand in hand with Audio partners to promote a series of

podcasts

;

a project that will start next week with the launch of a

podcast

about the host country, where Junquera traveled last month.

In addition, each day in the morning a newsletter will be sent with the day's agenda, the chronicles of the previous day and the most outstanding issues so that readers do not miss anything important.
