Team trail in Penzberg: The "hunter dynasty" continues

On the 6th team trail, the wet ground provided a challenge in addition to the demanding route.

A Penzberger continued the tradition of his brothers.

Penzberg – The slightly sloping meadow, the damp grass, the hustle and bustle in the transition area – such a combination can make even the best stumble.

Julia Rath suddenly lies on the floor.

The obstacle specialist from Penzberg, who has already taken part in the U20 World Championships this year, fell forward.

With a lot of skill, Rath manages not to get carried away by her running partner Severin Bächle (Bavarian U20 champion over 1500 meters), whom she has just high-fived.

A few fractions of a second later, Rath is standing again, acknowledging the action with a smile.

Luk Jäger wins the team trail with Piernicolo Bilato

The ground conditions were already a challenge on the sixth team trail of TSV Penzberg.

But that sort of thing is part of a competition that goes by the name of cross-country skiing.

The various gaffes all ended lightly and were acknowledged with a smile by those concerned.

Almost as if on rails, Luk Jäger (20/TSV Penzberg) and Piernicolo Bilato (22/TSV Ismaning) ran across the course on the Berghalde.

The two, colleagues both during their studies and in training, proved to be the best team in the main run over around 10 kilometers (8 x 1250 meters) and won after 35:06 minutes with a full lead of 1:29 minutes over Luca Glatthaar/ Michael Eder (PTSV Rosenheim).

Luk Jäger is thus continuing the "Jäger tradition" on the team trail: the older brothers Tom (2017) and Nick (2018/2019) had previously celebrated victories.

32 teams of two competed in the main run

"It's never been so muddy," said local hero Jäger, referring to his previous participations.

"But it went well with spikes." Bilato, who started in Penzberg for the first time, was impressed by the track: "It's tough, but cool." For both, "fun was the priority", as Jäger emphasized.

At the same time, however, it was also a competition in which you struggled more and was therefore "harder than standard training," says Bilato.

This is how the team trail works

In the TSV Penzberg team trail – the premiere took place in 2015 – two athletes form a team (women, men, mixed) and take turns running a certain number of laps on a cross course on the Berghalde.

The fastest duo wins.

The classification is based on the total age of both athletes.

The children's run (team age up to 16 years) leads over two laps of 600 meters.

Teens (up to 22 years/4 laps), students (up to 28 years/4 laps) and youth (up to 34 years/6 laps) also run on this route.

In the main run, the lap is 1250 meters long and has to be completed eight times.

There is a main class (up to 70 years), Masters I (up to 100 years) and Masters II (from 101 years)

The team trail for Karsten Pickrodt and Michael Schwarzer represented a contrast to their other sporting activities. The two from Weilheim, as members of the Post SV, indulge in triathlon sport.

The middle and long distances are her profession, "so rather the longer things," says Schwarzer.

"For a change" in Penzberg they went on a short 1250-meter lap that each athlete had to complete four times.

"It was demanding, but that's the way we wanted it," said Pickrodt with a smile.

With 43:58 minutes they took second place in the Masters I class of the men's teams.

Schwarzer/Pickrodt were satisfied with that.

In 2018 they already started at the team trail and even won their class at the time.

The organizers around Melanie Jäger and Markus Brennauer were also happy.

According to Brennauer, the restart after the cancellations in 2020 and 2021 went smoothly: "We have a well-established team." Various top Bavarian runners came to the Berghalde without much advertising in advance.

The LG Stadtwerke München had arrived with a large contingent - in the list of results, the women and men appear under "08/10K";

this is a group specialized in medium-distance (800 meters to 10 kilometers).

The main criterion for a good success for TSV Penzberg were the external conditions: "The weather held up," Brennauer stated with satisfaction.

The sun even peeked through the clouds for a moment.

At 32 teams, the number of participants in the main run was lower than in previous years.

The junior races (on a 600-meter lap) were manned in roughly the same way as in previous editions.

The children were particularly proud of their trophies: small running shoes in gold, silver and bronze.

After the award ceremony, they were presented to mum and dad in a very solemn manner.

Where a runner was missing at short notice, improvisation was made.

In the youth class, Elena Stadler (15) from SV Söchering – her running partner was ill – quickly got a replacement.

Julian Herter (19) from TSV Penzberg went with her to the 6 x 600 meters.

Behind the favored siblings Julia and Maximilian Rath, there was second place in the mixed ranking, and the two finished fifth overall.

"We found our way into the changeover procedure - not so easy at all at high speeds -" said Stadler.

Her personal performance was "okay", even if it was "a little shaky" towards the end.

Equipped with knobbly shoes, the 15-year-old came through without falling.

Stadler has been competing since 2019 and trains twice a week.

Several athletes completed two races.

Maximilian Rath took part in the school and youth run.

Julia Rath, Julian Herter and Sven Lange (TSV Penzberg) completed both the youth and main races.

Herter/Lange were one of the youngest teams (38 years) to finish 22nd overall over the long distance (46:24).

Rath (18) was at the forefront together with Bächle (19).

With 37:03 minutes, the two Bavarian talents were the best mixed duo and fourth in the overall ranking.

The team with the highest overall age came from SC Moosham: Uwe Franke (51) ran with father-in-law Otmar Nejtek (80) – they needed just 60:13 minutes.
