World Cup: FIFA refuses that Denmark wear a jersey with the slogan "Human Rights for All"

Denmark will not be able to train with a shirt displaying a political slogan for the duration of the World Cup.

Opponents of France in Group D, Denmark were not allowed to wear a training shirt displaying the slogan "Human Rights for All" ("Human rights for all") during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Scandinavian federation obtained a negative response from FIFA, which sticks to its line of conduct: "focus on football".

“We have sent a request to FIFA, but the response is negative.

We are sorry for that, we have to take note of that,” said Jakob Jensen, executive director of the Danish Football Federation.

In its regulations for the World Cup, FIFA prohibits teams from displaying political messages on its equipment.

Article 27 states that "players and officials are prohibited from displaying messages or slogans of a political, religious or personal nature in any language or in any form whatsoever on their clothing, equipment (bags, containers for drinks, medical bags, etc.) or their body”.

This restriction applies in theory to matches, but also to official training sessions and other official activities organized by FIFA.

Last September, the equipment supplier Hummel had disclosed the 3rd tunic of the Scandinavian selection by offering a black jersey with the logo almost erased.

A way of protesting against the host country and the conditions towards migrant workers who would be around 6,500 to have lost their lives on the construction sites of the World Cup stadiums since 2010. “We do not want to be visible during a tournament which has cost the lives of thousands of people,” said the Danish brand, referring to a highly contested assessment of Qatari shipyards.

The Qatari organizers had responded, believing that the equipment manufacturer "devalued" the progress made by the country.
