2022-11-13T20:03:39.665Z

The Brazilian Grand Prix, the penultimate round of the Formula 1 season, takes place this Sunday in São Paulo.

Back to the past.

This Brazilian weekend has awakened old memories and Sunday, Mercedes has offered a double.

It was George Russell (24) who won at Interlagos, after a masterfully managed race, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and thus signed his first success in his young career.

The young British also offers the first victory to the German firm this season.

A relief.

Carlos Sainz at the wheel of his Ferrari completes the podium.

A race with twists and turns was expected in Brazil and we were not disappointed.

After a rather calm start with the two Mercedes in the lead, Magnussen was hit at the end of the first lap.

Author of the best qualifying time on Friday and 8th in the sprint on Saturday, the Dane spun and speared Daniel Ricciardo.

The two drivers were forced to retire and the safety car was deployed.

Verstappen-Hamilton and Norris-Leclerc collision at the restart

The race was restarted on lap 7 and Verstappen attacked Hamilton from the outside and contact was inevitable.

The Dutchman, penalized by five seconds afterwards, was pushed back to the end of the classification, forced to go through the pits to change his wing and his tires.

Hamilton took over the track eighth.

In the following seconds, it was Leclerc's turn to be sent into the background by Norris, also penalized.

The Monegasque was sent like the Batavian to the back of the class.

In front, the fight settled between the two Mercedes, Perez and Sainz.

The victory was going to be decided between the four.

And at the end of the first salvo of the stops, the two Mercedes seemed to have taken a certain lead.

And after everyone's last stops,

Norris restarts the race, Russell holds on

But on lap 53, Norris was stopped on the Brazilian track.

The virtual safety car was first deployed, quickly transformed into a real safety car.

The race was restarted since everyone was grouped behind George Russell.

Not enough to shake the ex-Williams driver who still managed the recovery perfectly.

Behind, Perez, third on the restart, was swallowed up by the Ferraris and Alonso, author of a magnificent race since he started 18th, to finish 7th behind Verstappen.

In front, Russell kept Hamilton beyond the second to protect himself from the DRS and afford his first victory in F1.
