On the way to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics: Olympic eSports Week will be held for the first time next year.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that next year, for the first time, eSports Week will be held in Singapore, all of this is part of the tests to see if it will be included in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program.
The event to be held on 22-25.6.23 in partnership with Singapore's Ministry of Culture, Sports, Community and Youth and the Singapore National Olympic Committee (SNOC), the Olympic Sports Week will showcase the best of virtual sports, with the four-day festival also including technology exhibitions, panel discussions, Education sessions and exhibition games.
The highlight of the week will be the first live final of the e-Olympic Sports Series - a global virtual and simulated sports competition created in partnership with the International Federations (IFs) that includes competitions in virtual and simulated sports including baseball, motorsports, cycling, rowing and sailing.
It is estimated that a quarter of a million people from 100 countries will participate in the event.
IOC President Thomas Bach said: "The first Olympic eSports Week marks an important milestone in our ambition to support the growth of virtual sports within the Olympic movement. We believe the new format, with live finals to be shown for the first time, is an opportunity to further collaborate with esports players and create new opportunities for players and fans alike."
In the first quarter of next year, the World Olympic Committee is supposed to decide which new disciplines will enter the Olympic Games in 2028, when among the nine proposed disciplines, there is also electronic sports, which should attract quite a few youth towards the Olympic idea.
