Rugby player Pascal Cotet, pillar of Aviron Bayonnais, was found guilty on Wednesday of violence against a young woman.

The facts date back to December 3, when leaving a nightclub.

He was fined 300 euros by the Bayonne prosecutor's office.

Summoned as part of a criminal composition, which allows the public prosecutor to propose a sanction to the perpetrator instead of a trial, Pascal Cotet had admitted the facts.

During this evening, the 29-year-old player, under the influence of alcohol, hit a 25-year-old woman.

In the newspaper "Sud Ouest", the victim explained that he had been slapped by the player and had been the target of racial insults, which the Bayonne prosecution did not prosecute.

A coach also in court in February

In December, by means of a press release, Aviron Bayonnais “committed against all forms of violence” indicated “waiting for the conclusions of the investigation” to “take any action that would be appropriate”.

In the meantime, Pascal Cotet remained in his post as pillar.

In a month, on February 23 exactly, Antoine Battut, coach in charge of the Aviron Bayonnais sideline and former player of the club, will also appear before the Bayonne court, for violence committed against a nurse from the Aguilera clinic in Biarritz, in August 2022. At his side, a former physical trainer from the club will have to answer for the same facts, committed after an alcoholic evening.

Both had refused to comply with the anti-Covid protocol and wanted to brave the safety distances.

Antoine Battut has admitted the facts and risks a maximum of three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.
