Israel women's team captain Eden Rothberg spoke at a special press conference ahead of the EuroBasket opening • Coach Sharon Drucker: "It's important to have a team that can compete"

A month before the EuroBasket Women's 2023 games at the Shlomo Group Arena, a press conference was held today (Monday) with the participation of the captain of the Israeli basketball team, Eden Rothberg, the team's coach, Sharon Drucker, and the chairman of the women's committee of the Israel Basketball Association, Ornit Schwartz.

Team captain Eden Rothberg said: "Every player's dream is to reach EuroBasket. We work very hard and we have another whole month to prepare and we will do everything, and we have a great team that prepares us well. The group is the first thing and Israel is what matters. The dream is for girls who start playing basketball to see where they can go in the future."

Coach Sharon Drucker added: "We are heading towards a special event and our biggest goal is to perform properly. The association, together with me and everyone involved in women's basketball, we have tried over the past year and a half to put together the best team for the European Championship. For those who are familiar with the balance of power in women's basketball, it's important that we have a team that can compete. We invested a lot and worked hard. There is an amazing team here that helps and the goal is that in a month from now we will be a good team. We did five training matches, all against opponents from the European Championship. It is important to play at home so that the girls get used to what will happen, so for example the games against Germany at the beginning of June – this is also a simulation of the championship. We want the championship to feel that women's basketball has taken a leap forward because the goal is to develop the sport as much as possible. It will be a great success for us."

Sharon Drucker,

Chairman of the Women's Committee of the Israel Basketball Association, Ornit Schwartz: "It is very exciting to be in this position. The association makes and has made a lot of efforts to take the issue of women's basketball and turn it into a community. We want and want to create a big buzz around women's, girls' and girls' basketball. This is already happening with broadcasts and many other content on the various platforms of the Basketball Association. The goal is for everyone to be able to dream and reach and play at the highest levels. Every girl can wish herself to play in EuroBasket. I would like to wish them all good luck and see the hall full. There is no better show than watching the players of the Israeli national team. This event is an experience. As a parent, I would like this to be what my children experience. That's what the actresses stand for. We hope and aim to go as far as possible in order to give the girls this dream as well."
