46th minute: Finland doesn't get much on the chain, but the next chance for Germany is possible. But the DEB team cannot take advantage of a two-on-one situation by Wojciech Stachowiak and Alexander Ehl.
42nd minute: For the third time, the German goalkeeper has to give everything at the beginning of a third. In a one-on-one against Kakko, Strahlmeier is able to prevent Finland from taking the lead in a counterattack.

40th minute: That would make the entertaining second period history! Germany continues to pose challenges for Finland again and again, because the DEB team simply does not let up. First it was Kai Wissmann who gave Finland a 2-1 lead, before Sakari Manninen turned the game around with two goals for Finland. It was not until 18 seconds before the break that Germany equalised again.

For Finland, it could be a game of patience.
23rd minute: Strahlmeier is again in the spotlight, he parries strongly against Pesonen at the beginning of the second period.
21st minute: Into the second period! "Let's go", and "keep it up" could be heard from the players' tunnel from the German players. Now it's up to Harold Kreis's players to bring this to the ice.
20th minute: That's it for the first period. The German team can be very satisfied, especially with the last few minutes. Finland came into the first few minutes with a lot of pressure, but after the first goal for the home team, they did not manage to add to it.

Update from May 13, 18:31 p.m.: A good three-quarters of an hour to go until the second World Cup group game of the German national ice hockey team. National ice hockey coach Harold Kreis will rely on goalkeeper Dustin Strahlmeier against Finland on Saturday evening. The goalkeeper of the Grizzlys Wolfsburg is thus preferred over Mathias Niederberger of EHC Red Bull Munich, who played in the opening defeat against Sweden on Friday.

Ice Hockey World Championships live today: Germany challenged after opening defeat against Finland
Despite losing the start, Kreis encouraged his protégés. "The team played on an equal footing with Sweden and that should continue tomorrow," said the national coach, summing up the narrow defeat. He lacked determination in front of goal, according to the German-Canadian. "That's certainly an insight that we want to take with us into tomorrow's game: more shots on goal, more traffic," said the coach.
Moritz Seider of the Detroit Red Wings was also satisfied with the first game. "That's a very, very good foundation that we've laid. We haven't trained together for that long. But it went incredibly well," said the 22-year-old, "we annoyed a very, very good team for a very long time."

The Nokia arena in Tampere, Finland, will host all Group A matches. Not only the German team, but also the Finns were already on the ice on Friday. In front of more than 12,000 spectators, the Northern Europeans went down 1-0 (1-4, 1-0, 0-1) against the United States despite a 0-3 lead.
