Son plays for the South Korean national team and Chinese Premier League club Shandong Taishan, based in Shandong province in the northeast of the country. He is currently in the custody of Liaoning's Department of Homeland Security, according to an official at South Korea's Consulate General in Shenyang, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case, said the consulate requested a meeting with the footballer as soon as possible and was in contact with his family. At the same time, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said: "I am not familiar with the case."
