Cardiff City still haven't thrown in the towel. After being successively rejected by FIFA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Swiss Federal Court, the Welsh club knocks down one last card in the conflict between FC Nantes. According to L'Equipe, information confirmed by AFP, the resident of the League Championship, the 2nd tier of the English championship, has filed an appeal with the Commercial Court of Nantes.
After the death of Argentine player Emiliano Sala, who disappeared on January 21, 2019 in a plane crash, Cardiff, who had just recruited him from Nantes for 17 million euros, claims the sum of 110 million euros in damage from the French club. The case will be examined on June 22, said the lawyers of the French club.
In their application, Cardiff's lawyers explain that the non-arrival of the player, aged 28 at the time of his death, caused the club damage in sporting terms (relegation from the Premier League) and financial (loss of income but also the reimbursement of the first draft of the transfer that had been paid).
FC Nantes welcomes this new approach of Cardiff with a certain serenity: "It is a new demonstration of the relentlessness of Cardiff in this case, says the lawyers of the club, Jérôme Marsaudon and Louis-Marie Absil to L'Equipe. After being disavowed by FIFA, CAS and the Swiss Federal Court, Cardiff opens a new absurd judicial front. The FCN will not fail to seek compensation for the damage caused to it by this abusive procedure. »
