"I didn't take part today in the Toulouse - Nantes match. I do not wish to be controversial at all, but I must state my position. Respect for differences would be respect for others, self-respect, respect for what will be shared and what will remain different," he posted on Twitter.
The Egyptian striker went on to say: "I respect all differences. I respect all beliefs and convictions. This respect extends to others but also includes respect for my personal beliefs. Given my roots, my culture, the importance of my convictions and beliefs, it was not possible for me to participate in this campaign."

He concluded his message as follows: "I hope that my decision will be respected, as well as my wish not to argue about it and that everyone is treated with respect."
Beyond his gesture, many supporters regretted his last-minute decision preventing his club from summoning another player in the group to face Toulouse. As a result, the club was deprived of an additional weapon in the race to maintain.
