Carmelo Anthony, who will celebrate his 39th birthday in a few days, announced his retirement from basketball on Monday. The forward, who starred in 19 seasons in the best league in the world but did not play last year, scored 28,289 career points and was selected to the All-Star Game 10 times.
Carmelo tweeted in a video posted on social media: "It's my time to say hello. I remember the days when I had nothing, just a ball on the court and a big dream. Basketball was my outlet for everything in life... I will always be forever grateful for the people because they made me Carmelo Anthony. But now it's time for me to say goodbye."

Anthony, who failed to sign a championship ring, began his career with the Denver Nuggets, who selected him third overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. Later he moved to Portland, Houston, Oklahoma, the New York Knicks and Lakers, which was the last stop of his career.
