After regaining the lead in the standings, the championship is within reach for BVB. The festivities are already being planned at full speed.
Update from May 22, 10:31 a.m.: Borussia Dortmund is back in first place! The Black and Yellows took advantage of Bayern's blunder, who lost 1-3 to Leipzig, and moved past the record champions with a 3-0 away win in Augsburg on Sunday. BVB now have 70 points, two more than Munich.
BVB can become champions on Saturday – venue for title celebration to be announced soon
The omens ahead of Saturday's final matchday are clear: Edin Terzic's team have the outcome of the title duel back in their own hands. If Borussia wins against FSV Mainz 05 in front of their home crowd, the first championship since 2012 will be perfect – regardless of how FC Bayern play in Cologne.
Just recently, Dortmund's Niklas Süle revealed that he would like to celebrate the championship in Mallorca at the "Bierkönig". As far as the course of the upcoming celebrations around Borsigplatz in Dortmund is concerned, a joint statement from the city and BVB can be expected in the near future.

BVB start planning the championship celebration
First reported on 12 May: Dortmund – It is still unclear who will be German champion in 2023. If the season were to end now, i.e. after 31 matchdays, Borussia Dortmund would lose out in the title race with FC Bayern Munich, as they are one point behind the first-placed record champions. In Dortmund, however, they seem convinced that BVB will secure the title after Terzic's 6-0 thrashing of Wolfsburg. The city has already begun planning a possible championship celebration.

However, he can't reveal much at the moment – after all, the outcome of the championship is still open. "In two weeks, we would like to tell you more," said the 55-year-old in reference to the organizational framework of a possible championship celebration around Borsigplatz. The SPD politician makes no secret of the fact that he is keeping his fingers crossed for BVB: "Borussia Dortmund will be German champions," said the mayor, confident of victory.

Dortmund police prepare for BVB's championship party – more than 2012,400 fans attended in 000
The time frame has already been defined in more detail – and the association is also involved in the planning. The city would like to "present the details with BVB" by 23 May, should the Black and Yellow still have a chance of winning the title or even fixed it by then, Westphal, who recently made headlines with a curious offer to Dortmund rivals Schalke 04, told the Ruhr Nachrichten. The season finale will take place for Edin Terzic's team four days later in front of their home crowd against 1. FSV Mainz 05.
The preparations of the Dortmund police for a party of Borussia after the end of the season "have long since begun," police spokesman Peter Bandermann told Bild. The term "championship celebration" had recently been used "more often in service meetings than in the entire year before," he gave an insight into the situation of the emergency services, who are preparing for a large crowd of fans at an early stage. And rightly so: According to reports, more than 2012,400 people took part in the last title festival in 000.
