Our series on Noah, forty years later
It was Sunday, June 5, 1983. Yannick Noah did not know it then, but, by winning Roland-Garros, he opened a period of famine of forty years without another French victory, in the men's tournament, in a Grand Slam tournament. On the occasion of this anniversary, guided by his coach at the time, Patrice Hagelauer, we return in a series in five episodes on Noah's exceptional career that year at Porte d'Auteuil.
For Yannick Noah, the quest for Roland-Garros 1983 begins... in Monte Carlo. "It clicked because he did a little bit of anything there," recalls his coach at the time, Patrice Hagelauer. He lost a quarter-final to Orantes, who was no longer the great Orantes, with a bad attitude. It wasn't Yannick. I didn't recognize him. The two men then have a frank discussion. Direct.
