John Obi Mikel played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2017 and was part of winning 2 league titles, the Champions League, the Europa League and more. In recent months, he has put on a podcast in which he hosts friends, actors from the past, present and more. In the final episode, he hosted Florent Malouda, and together the two reminisced about their time under Abraham Grant at Chelsea.
Mikel criticized the Israeli coach, saying, among other things: "As far as I'm concerned, he wasn't a manager at all," he said, "He wasn't a manager because he had no idea what he was doing. No idea. He had someone do the training, and all he did was come and tell us stories about Michael Jordan. But it worked for him – he got us to the Champions League final." The man who trained in Grant's place is Hank ten Kata, the Israeli's assistant, who also served as Frank Rijkaard's assistant during his days at Barcelona.

Malouda echoed Mikel's comments, adding: "I remember Grant trying to do one of the training sessions and then realising he didn't have the skills to do it, so he was looking for someone who did have those skills. But when you look at the results, he got us to the Champions League final. He knew his limits and knew what he needed to help him, because being a manager is not easy, even if you have experience. I think he did a good job because he had no experience, and he still did his thing."
