Warm. It was very hot tonight (Tuesday to Wednesday) in Maracanã, when Argentina hosted Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. In the end, Argentina won 0-1 through a Nicolas Otamendi goal (63), but unfortunately football was the marginal thing in the 6th round of the South American group.

The main attention was taken by Brazilian security personnel and police in the stands, who, for unclear reasons, were extremely violent towards fans arriving from Argentina, including the unnecessary use of clubs, which infuriated the Albiceleste players. These, in protest of this behavior, led by Leo Messi, walked off the pitch before the opening whistle, and the game started late.
The Argentines settled the score with the Brazilians on the pitch, handing them a historic loss. Messi's Argentina were the first ever to beat the Seleção on their field in a World Cup qualifying match. Until this loss, Brazil's home record was 51 wins, 13 draws and zero losses - but the streak was over.
Argentina retained first place thanks to this victory, while Brazil plunged to sixth place, with three losses after six qualifying matches, with Uruguay and Colombia winning the other two. The hosts have only 7 points out of a possible 18, but they still qualify for the major tournament to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
