The Erding Gladiators scored a big win against EV Dingolfing on Friday evening.

Erding – In front of around 850 spectators, the leaders finished off the third-last with 10:2 (2:0, 5:0, 3:2) goals. "For me, that was the worst performance we've shown all season," grumbled EVD coach Bernie Englbrecht in the press conference. "We were too weak at the back and deserved to lose at altitude."

To the delight of the fans, Cheyne Matheson was back after a long injury break. He got on the scoresheet twice, and his coach Felix Schütz said: "Cheyne brought total calmness to the line." First, however, his colleagues Petr Pohl (7th) and Michael Franz (13th) scored.

The Isar Rats defended themselves bravely, but they could not really endanger the Gladiators Gate, which was guarded by Dimitri Pätzold. "We didn't show much resistance, only the first third was still reasonably good," said Englbrecht. Schütz replied: "I see it a little differently. I don't think Dingolfing played badly, but they just don't have the depth in the squad."

In the second period, the Gladiators set the course for victory and impressed above all with a 22 percent powerplay rate. Dingolfing conceded three penalties, and Erding was successful three times: Paul Pfenninger scored after 22 seconds (60nd), Leon Abstreiter after 24 seconds (37th) and Pohl after 27 seconds (25th). In between, there was a five-on-five goal by Matheson (27th), so that it was 6-0 after just under <> minutes. "After the three power-play goals, we totally collapsed," Englbrecht lamented. "The morale was kind of gone, the tackles weren't there, the bite wasn't there, and then you just lose by double digits against a good team like Erding."

"It's finally been a game like we've played in the months before for a week or two," said Schütz. "We played fast and hard, it was a great game from the team."
