They are still not rid of the last place in the table, but with the sixth win of the season, EV Moosburg is back in the race for the playoff places.
Moosburg - After the 5-3 (2-0, 1-2, 2-1) win against EHC Bad Aibling, the Green-Yellows are now part of a quartet that is separated by just one point. This time, the Moosburgers were wide awake from the start, acted very disciplined and took their chances. In the first period, the guests conceded two penalties and both times the bell rang. With a double overtime, they added the 3:0 in the middle section. Moosburg's intensive powerplay training over the past few weeks is now bearing fruit – and defensive stability has also improved.
Gross scored two goals this time and confirmed his upward trend with three scorer points
Another part of this development seems to be the formation of a second offensive line with a high goal threat. The interplay between Latvian newcomer Matiss Pumpurs and captain Stefan Groß worked well right from the start. Gross scored two goals this time and confirmed his upward trend with three scorer points. There's no doubt about it: The Pumpurs – Big – Huber series is a new weapon.
Bad Aibling scored for the third time just before the end
However, the Moosburgers were not able to maintain the top level for the full 60 minutes this time either. After taking a 3-0 lead, they eased off in the middle third and then conceded goals to make it 3-2. "During this phase, the momentum threatened to tip over," Robert Steinmann said later. He was very that the players deviated from the line of success, that one or two steps were taken less, that they tried something special and that the system became more fragile. Steinmann got the EVM back on track with defensive discipline. In the final third, they successfully kept the fifth-placed team away from their own goal – and then they struck mercilessly, scoring two goals within a minute and a half. This 5:2 was a reassuring lead, because Bad Aibling only scored again shortly before the end.
The results of the competition were less pleasing: Waldkirchen collected a point by losing extra time against Trostberg and Selb sensationally won against league leader Haßfurt. That's why the people of Moosburg have not yet been able to pass on the red lantern. With the next victory, however, it should work out.
