The training camp in Faro went well, but not entirely according to plan.
Bayern's wild preparation for Sunday's game against Bremen.
Munich - Munich did not necessarily welcome the FC Bayern entourage from its best side on Thursday afternoon - but at least from a very warm one.
The thermometer at Erdinger Moos was showing just under ten degrees Celsius when Thomas Tuchel (50) and his team touched down in the LH2571 plane - just seven degrees less than at the departure point in Faro.
When we left on Sunday the temperature difference was just under 30 degrees, but as we all know, the weather in this country has been crazy over the past week.
First snow, then icy ice, suddenly thaw and rain - it was all there.
Just like in the unusual, almost wild Bayern week before the first game of the second half of the season at home against Werder Bremen on Sunday (3:30 p.m., DAZN).

In summary, the program looked or looks like this: departure on Saturday, flight to Faro on Sunday, three intensive days of training in Almancil, return trip on Thursday, training and memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer, who died at the age of 78, on Friday, Final unit on Saturday.
An intense weekly schedule in the middle of the season, physically and emotionally challenging.
Because Tuchel had strongly advocated for a training camp internally, he also visibly tried to emphasize the positive side of the joint camp in his conclusion in Faro.
A core sentence that remains is: “I love training camps!” “We notice that the energy that is created during training stays in the group.”

In fact, despite some adversities such as rain, wind, lack of privacy at the training ground and injuries to Matthijs de Ligt (24) and Dayot Upamecano (25), we also saw players and coaches relaxed at the end of their stay in Portugal.
Tuchel and the new sports director Christoph Freund (46), for example, treated themselves to a padel tennis session at the end, while Leon Goretzka (28) caused a laugh with a little bike ride.
But the decisive factor was of course on the pitch - and there Tuchel “saw the spirit with which we also want to play”.
The coach summarized that the standard is now “extremely high”.
Against Bremen, the transfer to the stadium should be successful 48 hours after the closed performance at the memorial to Franz Beckenbauer.

New signing Dier is facing a cold start
The immediate preparation for the second home game in 2024 starts on Friday.
When Tuchel gathers his men on Säbener Strasse in the morning, he will take stock.
There was hope on Wednesday that, alongside the new father of four, Joshua Kimmich (28) and Eric Dier (30/left due to the birth of his first child), de Ligt would be welcomed back onto the pitch for more than just a running session.
However, Dier will tend to have to make a cold start and defend alongside Upamecano.
The goal is very clear: to “increase the pressure on Leverkusen” with a win.
Captain Manuel Neuer (37) emphasizes: “Of course it is a must for us at home against Bremen to win in any case.”

According to Tuchel, the last-minute victory of the league leaders in Augsburg, who have to face RB Leipzig in the top game on Saturday, “did not affect our morale or our confidence”.

On the program for Bremen: The catch-up game against Union Berlin on Wednesday - and the postponed “Christmas visits” to the fan clubs on Sunday.
