The first personnel decision in the German biathlon team before the World Championships has been made: For an athlete, the World Cup dream is over.
Antholz – The German athletes have shown outstanding performances so far this biathlon winter.
Among the men, four DSV hunters are among the top 15: Bendikt Doll (7th place), Philipp Nawrath (9th), Justus Strelow (12th) and Johannes Kühn (13th) (as of January 17, 2024). Things are also going well for the women overall, with Franziska Preuß in particular consistently impressing with top placings - but for a DSV athlete, the winter hasn't gone as hoped so far.
DSV deletes Hanna Kebinger for the World Cup and from the squad
We're talking about Hanna Kebinger, who has been active in the World Cup since 2022.
After recent weak results at the home World Cups in Ruhpolding and Oberhof, without a top 20 result in the individual, the DSV has now drawn the consequences: The 26-year-old will not be part of the German squad at the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic in February and initially removed from the squad for the other World Cups.
Kebinger cannot currently reach her performance limits, said sports director Felix Bitterling from the German Ski Association to the German Press Agency on Wednesday.
“It’s important to find out where it comes from.
Are these extensions of your corona infection or something else,” said Bitterling.
After a Covid infection at the beginning of December, Kebinger missed the World Cups in Hochfilzen and Lenzerheide.
She had to contend with a severe blow of fate last season.

Biathlon: No more competitions for Kebinger for the time being
“In this case there is not much to talk about.
That means the end of the World Cup for them.
But that's not because we doubt Hanna, but because she doesn't have the energy to achieve absolute excellence.
“The World Cup is really secondary now,” says Bitterling, explaining the decision.
The association then announced in a press release that Kebinger would forego competitions and intensive training completely for the time being in order to become completely healthy.
A program for re-entry will then be developed together with the athlete.
“She's not that old that you have to panic at the end of the game.
She is an important athlete for us who can have a good future in this circus for many years to come, and that is our top priority,” explains Bitterling.
Kebinger is “an absolute fighter.
But that fighting spirit is perhaps what is sending her in the wrong direction at this moment, because in her head she really wants to.
But she understood,” the official explained.

Kebinger not placed in DSV relay
Kebinger had a difficult time in the DSV team this winter and had to give way to her DSV competitors in some World Cups.
She was only in the squad in Ruhpolding for the last of four seasons so far, when she represented the ailing Vanessa Voigt.
However, she did well there and finished third as the final runner.
Missing the upcoming World Cup (February 7th to 18th) is doubly bitter for Kebinger, as she celebrated her greatest success to date at last year's home World Cup in Oberhof.
She won silver in the relay and thus her first medal at a world championship.
Her best individual result from this season was a 22nd place in the pursuit in Oberhof.
