Serious falls and serious injuries: The long ski weekend in Wengen turned into a nightmare.

After all, there should now be consequences.

Wengen – Thursday: Torn cruciate ligament in Marco Kohler.

Friday: Cruciate ligament tear in Alexis Pinturault.

Saturday: Flesh wound and dislocated shoulder for Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

In summary: A real nightmare weekend!

Serious injuries at the Ski World Cup in Wengen

The Wengen classic should actually bring great joy to ski fans.

In the end there was of course a lot of action and spectacular victories - but also serious injuries.

There has already been a lot of criticism from ZDF expert Marco Büchel.

For him and many others, it is obvious why such violent falls keep happening: there are too many competitions in too short a time.

Canceled starts are always rescheduled on other weekends when the regular races are scheduled.

This leads to an overload.

The good news: The ski circus could change suddenly in this respect.

After the many crashes at the long speed weekend in Wengen, race director Markus Waldner announced consequences.

The South Tyrolean said in Switzerland that under his leadership in the future, how many ski races will be scheduled per World Cup station will be considered more carefully.

“It is not good to force something into an already overloaded calendar,” said Waldner, according to the Swiss news agency SDA on Sunday.

Waldner announces changes to the ski calendar

In Wengen, the descent in Beaver Creek (USA), which was canceled at the beginning of December, was also added to the program on Thursday.

The Super-G followed on Friday and the long Lauberhorn descent on Saturday.

“We saw that many drivers were physically overwhelmed by the full program,” summarized Waldner.

Waldner's announcement already has an initial consequence: plans to reschedule the Super-G, which was canceled in Beaver Creek, in Kvitfjell in mid-February have been scrapped, according to the SDA.

In Norway – as in Wengen – there is already a downhill run and a Super-G on the program.
