Aleksander Aamodt Kilde falls badly in Wengen.

Shortly before the start, the Norwegian speaks to his friend Aksel Lund Svindal.

Wengen – The weekend in Wengen is probably one of the darkest hours in the Ski World Cup in recent memory.

Several top athletes fell heavily and sustained serious injuries.

The Norwegian world-class ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was not spared either and had to be transported away by helicopter.

His long-time teammate Aksel Lund Svindal witnessed the accident, and shortly beforehand the double Olympic champion spoke to his friend who died in the accident.

On Saturday (January 13th) Kilde lost control of his skis shortly before the finish slope and crashed violently into the safety fence.

The 31-year-old got off lightly, sustained a cut in his calf and dislocated his shoulder -

A kiss from the best skier in the world should console him a little about the fact that the season is over.

In addition to his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin, Kilde can also count on the support of his friend Svindal.

“Downhill skiing can be a cruel sport, and today was a harsh reminder,” Svindal wrote about Kilde’s horror fall on Instagram.

The 2018 Olympic downhill champion shares a goosebumps message: “I had to watch Aleksander Aamodt Kilde fall hard right after I had spoken to him up on the mountain.

I almost felt like I was there again.” The 41-year-old Norwegian, who ended his skiing career in 2019, may have been the last person to speak to Kilde before the accident.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the injuries aren’t too serious,” Svindal also said.

His hope was heard.

Although Kilde had to undergo surgery, other fall victims in Wengen had it much worse.

A ski star was first in baby happiness, now seriously injured: Alexis Pinturault has torn his cruciate ligament.

In his message, Svindal also acknowledged the reaction of spectators who witnessed the accident live.

“Great respect for the Swiss fans.

They had the unstoppable Marco Odermatt as the leader in the race, they sang and celebrated.

But as soon as Kilde fell, they stopped the party and hoped for the best when the medics came to help,” said the ski legend.

“Sport is brutal, but also beautiful.

And today the fans in Wengen really impressed me.

Thanks!"
