Cologne – The German dream of winning the European Handball Championship lives on!
Alfred Gislason's team made a successful start to the main round of the home tournament.
At the start on Thursday, the DHB selection won 26:24 against Iceland.
On Saturday evening (8.30 p.m., all information about the TV broadcast) the DHB team would like to follow up against Austria.
But a real fright awaits Germany.

Before the game against Austria, the German national coach had particular praise for goalkeeper Andreas Wolff, who had excelled against Iceland: “Andi is one of our world-class players and an important leadership figure.
“He gives the boys a lot of security,” said Gislason.
But at the same time, with a view to Germany's shock victory at the start of the main round, he added: “We have to do a lot of things better.
Our attack wasn’t good enough, especially in the first half.”
Nevertheless, the Icelander expects a successful game against Austria.
The narrow success against his home country brings “a lot to his inexperienced team.
We have gained valuable experience, especially the many young people in the final phase,” said the 64-year-old and predicted: “We have a very talented team that is already good.
But it gets even better.”

With a success in the “brother duel” against Austria in Cologne, Germany’s handball players (2:2 points) can take another step towards the semi-finals.
But the Austrians (3:1) around ex-Bundesliga star Robert Weber are also aiming for a historic entry into the medal games in their very own European Championship fairytale.
After relegating Spain to places in the preliminary round, the frightened favorites also defeated Hungary 30:29 on Thursday.
“They have done well so far and deserve to be where they are now,” said Gislason about the ÖHB selection.
“Austria is the surprise team at the European Championships so far,” the Icelander continued.
“In the past, the defense and goalkeeper performances have become even better.
They have become a very good team.” The Icelander explicitly highlighted the “world-class performances” of Nikola Bilyk from Kiel: “Niko is a phenomenal player and great character.
He is the player who runs everything at Austria.”
So everything is ready for a very exciting handball evening in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne.
