As the Austrian press agency

reports, the 33-year-old attracted unpleasant attention at a reception at the Hotel Kitzhof.

Mayer apparently suddenly stood on a chair and began to bawl loudly.

The security had to intervene and expel him from the hall.

The Austrian was then taken away by the police.

Police spokesman Stefan Eder confirmed that there was a police operation in a hotel in Kitzbühel because a person was “rioting”.

The person concerned was then taken away and was still in police custody on Thursday evening.

However, the police did not provide any further information about the person.

The ÖSV later published a statement about the incident in the hotel.

“Today we had to note with regret that Matthias Mayer has not yet overcome the health problems with which he has been struggling for a long time.

As the Ski Austria family, together with all athletes, colleagues and partners, we always gave him support,” the letter says.

ÖSV takes a stand on the rowdy Olympic ski champion

“We wish Matthias all the best and hope that he can return to his passion, skiing, as soon as possible.

“Even in consultation with his family, we ask for your respect and understanding that we cannot provide any further information,” the association’s statement continued.
