Munich - The emperor's journey ends where it began: Franz Beckenbauer was buried on Friday, January 12th in the cemetery at Perlacher Forst in his hometown of Munich.
He now rests at the side of his parents Antonie and Franz. The greatest German football legend died last Sunday at the age of 78 in Salzburg.

FC Bayern has planned some special activities for the home game against TSG Hoffenheim.
The official memorial service for Beckenbauer will take place a week later on January 19th in the Allianz Arena, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced his visit.
Numerous security employees cordoned off the area around the funeral.
At 11:50 a.m. the cemetery bells rang in the Munich district of Obergiesing.
Beckenbauer's coffin was decorated with colorful roses.
After the death of Franz Beckenbauer, national soccer player Thomas Müller goes into Bayern's first game after the winter break against TSG Hoffenheim this Friday (8.30 p.m./Sat1 and Dazn) “with mixed feelings”.
“Rest in peace, Franz. Thank you for everything,” Müller captioned his video post that was shared on social networks.

After Beckenbauer's death on Sunday at the age of 78, both teams are wearing mourning ribbons.
There will be a minute's silence for this.
Memories of the “Emperor’s” life’s work will provide emotional moments in the sold-out Allianz Arena with 75,000 spectators.
Beckenbauer's death obviously overshadowed everything, said the 34-year-old before the first Bundesliga game of the year.
Müller said it made him proud to play for FC Bayern.
“It makes you realize what special players, in this case the most special player, Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer, played for this club, for FC Bayern, made the club and also the country of Germany, the football country of Germany, famous Müller is happy that he has been able to “wear the colors of FC Bayern for so long now”.
