Israeli basketball woke up this morning (Monday) to difficult news, with the news of the death of former player and coach Lior Liubin at the age of only 46, after succumbing to cancer.
Just a few months ago, Liubin was still standing on the lines of Hapoel Beer Sheva, but within a short period of time there was a rapid deterioration in his condition.
When he left his position in Be'er Sheva in November, the hope was that with the help of aggressive treatment Liubin would be able to overcome the disease.
He underwent intensive treatments for a month, but it did not help and in the end he and his family gave up.
In the last few weeks, it was clear that Liubin's condition was irreversible, so he and his family chose to return home and not stay in the hospital.
Liubin was visited by a limited number of people, including his close friend and Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Oded Ketch, who visited him for the last time last week.
But in Israeli basketball.

As a player, he was selected as a youth player for the discovery of the season in the Premier League (1999), was once the king of assists (2000) and twice the king of steals (2001-2) and won a double with Maccabi Tel Aviv (2003).
As a coach, he won the Balkan League championship three times: in 2012 and 2013 with Hapoel Gilboa/Galil and last year with Hapoel Beer Sheva.
In addition, as Ketch's assistant in Panathinaikos, Liubin was a partner in winning the double in Greece.
