Rémi Cuche has to be taken away by helicopter after a blow to the knee.

Uncle and ski legend Didier's fears come true.

Kitzbühel – What a bitter World Cup premiere for Rémi Cuche.

The Swiss was able to get a taste of the premier class of skiing for the first time last weekend in Kitzbühel, but he paid a high price for his premiere on the Streif.

Uncle Didier Cuche with tears in his eyes

The nephew of ski legend Didier Cuche, who won a total of six times in Kitzbühel, received a severe blow to his knee in the second training session before entering the steep slope.

In the first training session, Cuche was in 56th place.

After the blow to his knee, the 23-year-old was able to prevent himself from falling, but his face was contorted with pain and he grabbed his knee and had to be transported away by helicopter.

Uncle Didier saw the scene live in the finish area and, with tears in his eyes, assumed that his nephew had torn his cruciate ligament.

Cuche receives bitter diagnosis after exit in Kitzbühel

Five days later, Cuche himself announced the diagnosis.

The Swiss suffered a partial tear of his anterior cruciate ligament.

“I don't have the words to describe how I felt last week.

I'm fulfilling my biggest childhood dream of skiing on the legendary Streif.

I was transported away by helicopter and knew exactly what to expect,” the 23-year-old wrote on Instagram.

This is not the first serious injury for the youngster.

In March 2019, Cuche suffered a torn cruciate ligament on his right and 534 days later in September 2020.

But the Swiss still doesn't think about giving up.

“Having this experience made me realize that I live for these minutes of adrenaline and that, unfortunately, there is a certain risk associated with it,” writes Cuche.

Now a new battle against myself begins, “and I will do everything I can to come out of it stronger.” (
