Marist Espinosa, a judoka from Cuba who competed in the Olympic Games in Rio, passed away, and she was only 34 years old.
In Cuba, the cause of the athlete's death at such a young age was not specified, and it was only reported that she "suffered a heart attack" and that "she underwent several breast surgeries" that damaged her health.
According to some reports, these are "cosmetic surgeries".

Espinosa, born in Havana, was the Pan American Games champion in 2013 and 2014 in her weight class (up to 63 kg). She won medals at the Grand Slam tournament in Rio, Baku and Tokyo. She participated in the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, winning in the first round, but In the second round, she lost to Jordan Jarby (who eventually won the bronze medal). She also lost to Jarby in Havana, when the two met in the Grand Prix final that year.
After her death, Espinosa's family and friends took to social media in an attempt to raise money to bring back the body Hers to Cuba. "Anyone who can help, we will appreciate it," her friend wrote, "There is a two-year-old girl left without a mother, and her family members do not have the means to fly her body here."
