Football: Nadia Nadim joins AC Milan and continues her long journey from Afghanistan

Highlights: Nadia Nadim has signed for AC Milan from Louisville. The 36-year-old was born in Afghanistan and moved to Denmark at the age of 12 with her mother and four sisters after the execution of her father by the Taliban. She is the first sportswoman of foreign origin to join the Danish national team, men and women and all sports combined. She has 103 caps and 38 goals for Denmark. Nadia Nadim is a qualified doctor and is a UNESCO Champion for the Education of Girls and Women.


The former Danish striker and international for PSG, 36, joins the Rossonero club from Louisville.


Afghan refugee, qualified doctor, Danish international… Nadia Nadim, 36, is not one of those players who is forgotten once they leave the club.

The former Parisian striker, from 2019 to 2021, scoring 26 goals in 54 matches in the capital, will now exercise her talents in the jersey of AC Milan, with which she signed up this Saturday.

2021 French champion with PSG, Nadia Nadim, who passed through Denmark, the United States and Manchester City before Paris, played in Louisville for the last three seasons.

In parallel with her playing career, the striker studied medicine, with a view to becoming a surgeon after her career, and graduated in 2022.

A Danish citizen since 2008, in 2009 she became the first sportswoman of foreign origin to join the Danish national team, men and women and all sports combined.

She has 103 caps and 38 goals.

Off the field, Nadia Nadim is distinguished as “UNESCO Champion for the Education of Girls and Women” 2019.

The young woman was the subject of a documentary retracing her journey, “Nadia, from shadow to light”, directed by Anissa Bonnefont in 2021. That same year, she published her autobiography, “My story” ( Editions Marabout).

In Italy, a country where she and her family passed around twenty years ago, Nadia is preparing to add a new chapter to her story.
