This is the end of a file which will have animated the French winter transfer window.
After a long month of negotiation and standoff between the three parties, Nemanja Matic signed up this Saturday for Olympique Lyonnais for two and a half years from Stade Rennais, as announced by Le Parisien this Thursday.
The day after its defeat (2-3) against the Breton club at the opening of the 19th day of Ligue 1, OL made the news official on its X account via a video showing the midfielder's first steps in his new environment .
“Finally” declared Matic as he shook the hand of Lyon sports director David Friio.
“Olympique Lyonnais is very pleased to announce the arrival of Serbian international, Nemanja Matić, from Stade Rennais, until June 30, 2026. The transfer amount amounts to €2.6 million” specifies the club led by John Textor in a press release.

Despite 19 matches played in all competitions since his arrival in Rennes last summer, the former player of Manchester United, Chelsea and AS Roma was in for a clash, skipping several days of training and even going so far as to empty his locker and leave the WhatsApp group of the Breton workforce without warning its leaders.
Uncomfortable in Ille-et-Vilaine, disappointed with the first part of the season, Matic particularly regretted that his children could not follow an international course as had been agreed at the time of his signing.
The experienced defensive midfielder finally chose Lyon despite strong interest from Turkish club Besiktas.
