Ski jumping: Andreas Wellinger leads the German team at the Ski Flying World Championships.

In ski jumping, the second highlight of the season is about to reach its big finale: the Ski Flying World Championships.
The team event takes place on Sunday.
Germany is starting as a medal candidate.

Tauplitz/Bad Mitterndorf - The
2024 Ski Flying World Championships
is nearing its crowning conclusion.
After the individual competition, the world champions in team flying will now be searched for on Sunday at the Kulm in Tauplitz/Bad Mitterndorf, Austria.
The
first round starts at 2:00 p.m.

Gone with the Wind would be a good title for the 2024 Ski Flying World Championships in Bad Mitterndorf.
After
the training jumps and qualification
had already been canceled on Thursday, the third round of the individual competition had to be
postponed by two hours
on Saturday .
The planned fourth round was completely canceled.

For
Andreas Wellinger,
however, that third round was extremely important.
The 28-year-old was able to fight his way past Johann Andre Forfang and Timi Zajc with a strong jump of 229 meters and secure the
silver medal
.
Stefan Kraft from Austria became world champion.
Zajc, who was in first place before the last jump, came third.
Now the DSV team, which will continue to consist of Andreas Wellinger, Stephan Leyhe, Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke, continues in the
team competition
.
Four athletes per nation
will
compete and complete one jump in two rounds.
The jumpers' respective performances are added together and form the final result.

Thanks primarily to Wellinger's strong performance, the German team is one of the medal favorites in the race for the World Team Championships.
The performance of the rest of the team in Bad Mitterndorf has been mixed so far.
Stephan Leyhe
came tenth in the individual, followed by
Karl Geiger (19th)
and
Pius Paschke (23rd)
.
After the strong results in the individual jumping, the big favorite is the Slovenian team around bronze medalist Timi Zajc, fifth-placed Lovro Kos and the two Prevc brothers.
But the
Austrians
with individual world champion Stefan Kraft are always good for a strong team event despite the rather
weak performances of the rest of the team
at the previous Ski Flying World Championships.
Team flying is generally very exciting because all four jumpers
have to
perform consistently to win .
So everything is set up for an interesting competition.

The 2024 Ski Flying World Championships is not part of the World Cup for the 2023/24 season.
The results are not included in the overall ranking or the national ranking.
